Newell Vineyards Chardonnay Manisse 2004 Tasting Notes
"What strikes you first about this delightful chardonnay
is its opulence. It is rich and full-bodied. I was thinking this
is one of the few chardonnays that is proud to be American as
opposed to trying to out-do the French at their own subtle game.
If you like Rombauer, as just about every American does and every
critic with French trained buds does not, then you will also love
this wine. Ripe pear, pineapple, papaya and fig dominate the palate.
Nose is lemon and other citrus blossom; also caramel, honey and
butterscotch. Think rich, think yummy. The fruit is from an estate
vineyard and was hand-harvested. Barrel fermented in French oak
casks and 9 months on the lees. This wine is delightful and a
crowd pleaser. Highly recommend"

Newell Vineyard 2004 Chardonnay Manisse
I tasted this Monterey County grown Chardonnay with Timmermans
and her staff, and we were all impressed by this new brand made
in Lockwood. Bright and fruity with apple and pear aromas and
flavors, it's highlighted with crisp lemon notes and nuances of
toast and spice from fermentation in French oak casks. Well balanced
and elegant, it's a delicious quaffer on its own. The first release
from owners Jay and Shannon Newell, they suggest pairing it with
shrimp, roasted chicken, or sole amandine. Only 185 cases made,
it's $25 retail and now available in Avila Village Market & Deli's
wine section, or at www.newellvineyards.com.
